Abstract：The article analyses the relutionship between the past flourishing of Xi'an City and the Silk Road, believing that the newly-built Euro-Asian railway, the so-called Silk Road of today, which runs past Xi'an City, presents an opportuning for the development of the old city. In order to meet the golden opportunity, we should take th following points into consideration. First, emphasis should be trid on the development of the third industry, esp. commerce and tourism. Second, the traditional industry should be reformed and the light industry should be put much emphasis on. Third, finace, foreign trade should be strenythened and tele-communication should be developed. Fourth, the international joint transportation should be realized as soon as possible.
